steam != smoke != fire

Ok. So last night…we go to bed about 10:30pm and are talking a bit, around 11:15pm we hear all these sirens. No big deal for LA right? Not getting out of bed. Then we hear the sirens all close, we are like “Hrmmmm, maybe the cops are dealing with the homeless people that camp out in droves outside our window.”

Then the sirens get even closer…so we get up and head out to the front room to see what is going on. Keep in mind we are in pjs..I’m just in my boxers…anyway right as we get into the front room we hear a loud thump, then the front door splinters and flies open.

Its our boys from the local Los Angeles Fire Station! They broke down our door! And one of them is holding this table-saw-on-a-stick thing..the kind of thing you would use to cut chunks out of dinosaur teeth and hock them on the street corner. If you were so inclined.

They are yelling at us to get out because there’s a fire and I’m like ‘Fuck no, there’s no fire – you see this place – it is SMALL. We would know if there was a fire.” So they finally calm down and ask if we have a dryer and I say yes, and it is running….so they tromp mud all through our living room and kitchen to see that our dryer is indeed running, and in fact not a flaming inferno.

Turns out that some fucking retard behind us or something called the fire department because they saw the steam from our dryer…hmmm…retarded? Survey says YES! I guess no one around here has ever had a dryer before…hint: most of them require the venting of steam from some portion of your dwelling. The second surprising thing was that not one of the fireman in the FOUR trucks (keep in mind that one truck is bigger than our entire duplex) blocking the road out in front of our place can tell the difference between SMOKE and STEAM. Hmmm, methinks they need to add that into fireman 101 if it is not already.

*sigh* So the wooden part of our front door is all busted now….and its going to take a few weeks to replace it since it has to match the door on the other side of the duplex.

P.S. I have nothing but the utmost respect for firemen and the job they do, I’m just extremely annoyed by what happened, and that no one could tell the difference between smoke and steam.
