bbc vs. cuba
So I was flipping through the channels the other day when I was home sick and I happened to stumble across something I found amusing. I stopped on a BBC America news show for some reason and they did a brief story on the current Cuba/Fidel thing. Their brief blurb was this: Cuban practioners of Santeria pray for Fidel’s recovery, some of them believe he was sent by God.
I’m not commenting at all on the validity of such a thing, because I’m not near informed enough to. What struck me as crazy is that every single piece of news I’ve heard from the US news outlets (which admittedly, isn’t a whole lot) – really only what I see pop up on the web and on public radio in the morning – has been about how the Cubans just can’t wait for Fidel to die. Haven’t heard/seen a single pro-Castro Cuban story from American journalists yet. They must be out there, but I just haven’t stumbled across one. Although I did stumble across a British one, the one time I check in on British news in the last 6 months.
Amusing.
