anti-links: Phelps drama & (re)creating neanderthals
First installment of a new topic type wherein I talk about things that are floating all over the interwebitubers, without providing any relevant links. Stuff we’ve all seen, or can easily find with some google-age, that I’d just like to shoot the shit about.
Topic #1: The Phelps pot thing.
The witch hunt aspect of this is hilarious. They’re hauling in people who were at the party to interrogate them about whether or not they knew the guy or whatever he was doing, but they’re not collecting Phelps himself (who obviously knows what’s going on)? Beth! Where’s my CSI/LNO expert – is that normal? By the time cops are carting in people to interrogate about you, you should have at least been called in right? I mean, if it’s massive public knowledge? Seems kinda rude.
The big hoopla is about nothing of course. I’m guessing it’s just an American thing and not a full-on Olympic regulation – because pot is legal in several other countries?
What I hope comes out of this is that, with the massive attention this is getting, people realize how idiotic pot persecution is and maybe the laws continue to change, but we’ll see.
Topic #2: neanderthal genome mapping, creating one possible for $30 million – supposedly
Wow. That’s actually kinda big news. I wonder if it would require a woman to carry it to term or if they would just test tube it or what? The off-side of this must mean that Jurassic Park is directly possible now. If they can ressurect a humanoid from a genome, certainly dinos can’t be far behind. Which is fucking awesome I think.
Just remember: raptors can open doors.
Now, ethically. Huh. WTF? We go out of our way to preserve species..and I don’t think anyone would argue against “re-creating” a dog if somehow all the dogs went extinct (don’t worry, they’ll be in heaven!). So what’s the deal with sentient life? This is seriously god-fucking crazy. My mind is blowing itself (not like that!) as we speak.

This country has got to get its priorities figured out!! Alcohol and Tabacco Kill more innocent people EVERY YEAR! Marijuana will NEVER KILL in a million years. I don’t think you can find one single case of an OVER DOSE!!! LEAVE PHELPS ALONE AND FOCUS ON REAL EVENTS LIKE GLOBAL WARMING AND THE ECONOMY.
