Peter Bjorn & Yawn
Acquiescing to Rolling Stone’s demands, I listened to the new Peter Bjorn & John disc.
No.
Wtf? How is this “good”? I mean, it’s some guys making music but..is there something interesting about this music I’m just missing? It’s not bad by any stretch, but is it good? I…I don’t think so. Sure “Old Folks” or “Young Folks”, whatever it was, was a great, catchy pop song BUT this album sounds nothing like that, so it’s not going to please that audience. What audience IS it going to please?
Not this one. Next!
I tried to listen to it again and just can’t. It’s too damn boring. And not boring in a good way like the National or Starflyer or something.
Their 2005 disc seems to be better so far, but still not nearly enough to make me listen to it again, let alone buy it.

big Agreed!
Sunday @ Coachella during a food break, the tent i was in had proximity to them on the main stage and Antony & Johnsons on outdoor stage, bleeding into one another, creating an unholy mess…whew!
The shame is that they got the hit, when their is a whole compelling generation of new swedish artists that rocks…Jens Lekman & Frida Hyvonen jump to mind…quirky (in a good way) is the word that i would use…
So true. I’ve only heard a few Lekman songs and they seem pretty decent; I haven’t had time to really sit down and experience it yet. I only do that for an artist or two a month – I wasted one of my blocks this month on PB&J Lol.
I been a fan of Swedish rock/pop for ages man there MUST be something in the water there because pound for pound they either right up there with the UK, or over it. Some of my favorites:
*INC used to rock, I don’t like their recent stuff as much.
*Sahara Hotnights – Their 3rd album is sick fun rock.
*Cardigans? One of the most underrated bands of the last 15 years or so.
The Sounds seem pretty decent too. They have the dubious honor of having one of my favorite album covers from the last few years ;).
And that’s not even counting the new stuff you mention and that I’m failing horribly to keep up on.
I hear they’re pretty big on nasty death metal too…which I’m not into.
