weird spam comments #1

So, here’s one from today, with the link happily redacted:

Yooo..

I kno it has nothing to do with what you wrote, but have you ever heard of [some bullshit link]. They seems to promise free ringtones

PS. Dont be an ass, this is NOT spam ;)

Cheeky isn’t it?

I wish I had the one I accidentally deleted this morning it was SO SO bizarre.  The site it linked to was a fake/program generated blog, where each post had 25 comments, all posted at the exact same time…looked like they were lifted from some gaming forum or something – anyway they had nothing to do with whatever the post was, which was always something to do with chocolate (also programmatically generated I think).

The weird thing was that there were no spam links that I could see on the site, and it was hosted at blogger so I don’t *think* there were any xss/scripting/etc. hacky attacky exploit things.

It was just so damn odd.

I still don’t get the point of these things!

I’ve been getting these a lot lately too- on twitter and this messageboard I admin. The message board was taken over by standard sneaky porn-spam bots, but the twitter one was similar to yours- I mentioned some band, then someone followed me and was like “I like ______ to! Great band! [link]” The link was some innocuous seeming thing that didn’t look like a typical malware site. I looked at the “person’s” twitter page and there were just hundred of identical messages with different bands subbed in.
Spam is getting weirder and weirder.

@Bethany: There is money involved somewhere. They get paid pennies or fractions of pennies per click probably.

@Brian: The twitter spam seems exceptionally strange – don’t you have to subscribe to someone to get their spam?

I wish running spam bots was punishable by death..fuck that whole “95% of the internet is porn” – not true, 95% of the internet is LINKS to porn. Fucking spamtards ruin it for the rest of us.
