Act 3 outline finished!
out of 4.
and wow does that feel good. Even though nothing is really done – I still have to throw a couple fatscooter drivers worth of flesh on them thar bones, but at least the bones are there! Hopefully I can subject lovely wife to it soon and see if sounds remotely interesting to someone not-me.
I also finished the rough for chapter 9 last week. I think I’ll wind up adding a few more pages to the end of it at some point…or maybe merging it and 10, we’ll see how 10 goes.
For the curious….so far:
- Act 1 is 5 chapters, 80 pages (12 pt Courier new single spaced), 32824 words
- Act 2 is 4 chapters, 30 pages, 12122 words – with probably one more chapter to go
- 4 acts are planned. I’m not sure if “acts” is the proper term, but there are 4 somewhat obvious (to me) stages to the book (I realize these are horribly non-technical terms, so please bear with me all you pro-writers out there):
- character intro
- plot/case setup & continued intros
- investigation & examination of the case
- confrontation & resolution
- Yes, there is some law enforcement type stuff in there…without giving anything away, the plot involves agents of a law enforcement/intelligence agency on a case or two in a world much like our own, except, you know, not.
- Tot sure if i want a completely rigid 5 chapters per act thing or what, it just worked out that way so far. The thought does appear to my anal nature though.
Thus concludes another update in my series of attempting-to-keep-motivated/focused-by-guilting-myself-due-to-the-fact-that-I’ll-feel-lame-if-other-people-know-about-this-and-I-never-finish.

Hah-ZAH! Congrats and keep it up!
