2009 in lists: albums purchased
January! You know what that means for bloggers: LISTS! I’m not lame enough to do a “best of my posts” post (or ten) – lucky for you right? BUT, there are plenty of other last-year-related things to make lists out of. So here’s the first.
You can see how much I cut back on album purchases – here’s everything I picked up last year, ranked in order of quality:
Kings of Convenience - Declaration of Independence
Gaslight Anthem, The - Senor and the Queen [ep]
Bruce Springsteen – Working on a Dream
Bon Voyage – Lies
Starflyer 59 – Ghosts of the Past (b-sides collection)
Starflyer 59 – Dial M
Tegan and Sara – Sainthood [My review]
Note that every album is by an artist I already have a “relationship” with… I don’t spend $$ on flat out risks these days – that’s what youtube/streaming music/etc. is for. The last two on the list… I’ll probably get rid of them at some point. The Kings of Convenience one is the only one I would feel confident recommending to anyone at random (although I suspect that anyone who is a fan of Gaslight, Bon Voyage, or Springsteen would enjoy their respective offerings, I did). All in all, it was a pretty crummy year.
Hopefully this year will be better… although another shitty year means less money spent, which is a good thing.
