DS9+17: Past Prologue
Just watched Past Prologue, and the facial madness continues!
Did all the Treks do this? I can’t remember. But everyone seems to carry a ton of emotion IN THE FACE. ie bad guys are frequently given away by early on in a kind of facial-aside. Face monologue? It’s not horrible – I mean, they are generally pretty good face actors, I just find it amusing.
The episode was Kira centric, but had a good bit for the (still goofy) doctor to do, and plenty of screen time for O’Brien & Sisko, as well as introduced the long-running support character of Garek, the semi-friendly (?) Cardassian.
Also, there was some really reddish Klingon inner-side boob. I think it was dealing explosives or something.
So here Kira faces an incarnation of her past self and comes to terms with her (and Bajor’s) new role in the galactic scheme of things. Also, she proves to Sisko that she’s not a total douche (after going behind his back and doing something douchey), and can be trusted. Oh, and she got a haircut, which I think is much improved from the one she had in the pilot.
Oh, and Odo can turn into a rat, right down to the tails and individual hairs, but still can’t make a fucking nose or ears right. I’m sorry, but that one just doesn’t fly. Hella dumb writers, hella dumb. Also, his ability to create and lose mass is just ballsout nuts. Shapeshifting, sure, but somehow the mass dislocation is the weirdest bit to me. Because… um, Star Trek totally is science?
