I’m not a big fan of Batman but

| August 13, 2010

this is a nice cover for Batwoman #0: The Batwoman character in general has been handled very well.  Not to mention the art on the Batwoman arc in Detective Comics was brilliant.  Maybe the only time I’ve ever been tempted to buy a Detective trade.  I still may if I find it on sale somewhere.

4/5 on my “Uncanny” X-Force prediction + comic ramblings

| July 15, 2010

So, a couple months back this teaser on the left was floated.  On the right is the reveal. So, I called them all except Angel, and only because I saw a quote about Angel being “the last person they would want on this team”.  That will teach me to listen to even pretty direct denials. [...]

Captain America 606 was just as stupid as I expected

| June 13, 2010

and by “stupid”, I mean “retconnish”.  Wee Baron Zemo, after a fucking DECADE of character work, is back to being a stupid villain.  Annnnnd he’s taking Fixer with him.  Except that Fixer is currently working with the “new” Thunderbolts… which is also having a Zemo appearance?  But whatever, this Fixer was cool with building a [...]

Watch out DC, Marvel may have cracked the Legacy hero nut

| June 12, 2010

While DC has been busy killing its legacy heroes and sticking them in matchboxes, killing/resurrecting/de-titling and de-aging them, and bringing back the originals (Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Superman, Batman, etc. – there are still a couple of legacies left in Justice Society), Marvel is swinging for the fences with the new/current Captain America. Of course [...]

pullbox odds and ends for week of 06/09/10

| June 10, 2010

Uncanny X-Men 525 continues to do exactly what you’d expect it to.  Hope throws a tantrum that may spell bad things, not to mention foreshadows a connection to Cyclops (or tosses out a ruby herring – Cyclophoenix??).  Other than the tantrum, nothing much happened here – lots of threads were pushed along, but none got [...]

War of the Supermen was dumb

| May 27, 2010

Wow, what a good use for an entire planet of Kryptonians!!1101!  Or 100,000 of them at least.  And now they are mostly dead/phantom zoned, except for a few sleepers that I’m sure will turn up as random villains but WOW that was a totally interesting thing to do with a planet of super powered beings [...]

dumb things in comics lately

| May 17, 2010

DC just killed the new (non-white) Atom (Ryan Choi) (in some random Titans one shot to show how badass Deathstroke and crew are).   Thank gods we still have the old, white Atom to fall back on huh?  Because killing of (newish) minority characters that actually headlined a series (even if it was canceled) is always [...]

pullbox for 04/28/10

| May 1, 2010

X-Force 26 : Let’s just get this one out of the way first, because it should be the main marvel book talked about this week.  Yes, an X-Man died and yes it was exactly who you should have expected, based on all the blatant foreshadowing and illogical heroicness.  No, I don’t think it was necessary [...]

pullbox for 04/21/10

X-Factor 204: Ok, no one thinks those last panels reflect something that actually happened, right?  At worst – two dupes in costume, I suppose?  Still, hell of a morbid note to end on.  It got me thinking about how different comics are these days.  So much visible death and blood.  Well, I suppose that’s what [...]
