No, being a child molester is NOT the same as being gay

onefinemess | October 22, 2009

Let’s take a trip down shit-logic lane, shall we?

Man molests pre-pubescent boy.
Therefore, man must be attracted to males.
Therefore, man is gay.
Therefore, all/most gays are child molesters.

Now, of course we can all point out the obvious logical fallacy involved in traversing the gulf between steps 3 and 4, right?
If not, please don’t call me.  Ever.
Instead, I’m [...]

but can it do linguistics?

So, robots are doing biology experiments on their own now.
Thankfully my accent is much clearer than his, I’m sure.

dispatch from Future Cyborgia: reprogramming the brain

onefinemess | March 3, 2009

Scary is it seems, there a lot of potential here.
I would honestly rather have someone “operate” on my brain to treat something than take the chemical coctails that are designer drugs.  You see the side effect warnings on those things….
If depression really is a brain disfunction, and anti-depressants are really just crude (and addictively expensive), [...]

Archaeology.
Because shit like this this, blows my mind.
Seriously, click that link, and read the story. It is amazing.
Thousands of years older than the pyramids?  Wow.
You don’t have to believe the theories that people are coming up with to realize the find is absolutely amazing.  What’s weird is that it took me 16 years to hear [...]

Rowr?
The real question though – can I get one with 4 arms &  6 fingers on each?

can we change our own genetics?

onefinemess | February 16, 2009

This is pretty crazy.  (In short: scientists find that environmental (not chemical or drug induced) changes can be passed on to offspring in mice).   Just the first round of experiments I’m sure.
If true though, it makes a lot of sense.

designer babies: almost here

onefinemess | February 13, 2009

Of course it would start in LA.  I don’t think there is any other place in the world as conducive to this (except maybe China in the sense of targeting for boys over girls).

Surprise! Fake sugar is probably worse for you than sugar

onefinemess | February 13, 2009

I’ve been saying this for years but, since I know nothing, it doesn’t count!

complex trait evolution: recorded and replayed

onefinemess | June 11, 2008

Here is some very cool science news.
The fact that they were able to reproduce the mutation again, but only under certain circumstances…awesome!  This is going to be even cooler once they figure out what chain of changes led to the mutation.  Makes me wish I had stuck with that childhood dream of mine to go [...]

Well, its the end of yet another exciting week of life – here are some of the more interesting things I’ve found to amuse myself with on the web this week.
Clinton or Obama: decision tree – a pretty neat graphic
CNN has a story up on how genetic information from Africa tells us that the human [...]
